The CAMP

COSTA MESA, CA

The CAMP is a specialty retail center targeting the outdoor adventure sports enthusiast. The $12 million development is located on a 3.4 acre site in Costa Mesa, California. The two-story high 120-foot long horizontal redwood slat screen wall that fronts Bristol Street, a rather anonymous, high-speed suburban thoroughfare, reestablishes the street front and the presence of the project in the city. Five separate one and two-story buildings, totaling 36,800 GSF, are grouped around a central common outdoor space. This central space, configured to recall four of California’s climate zones, provides circulation, which allows for discovery, vistas, and access to the fourteen, outdoor specialty product retailers. As important as the stores themselves is the environment created – a unique, urban destination that attracts customers with its ambiance and physical presence – a very authentic place of gathering for adventure.
