SNOW COLLEGE WHITMORE CENTER FOR THE ARTS

EPHRAIM, UT

The Whitmore Center fulfills Snow College’s long held goal of bringing together visual arts teaching, exhibition and performance in a single integrated location. Combining galleries, media capabilities, event space, an auditorium and museum with collaborative studio and teaching spaces, the Whitmore Center serves the entire campus community.

The two level building occupies an entire block creating a new campus node with adjoining campus buildings. The building is organized around a central commons that serves multiple uses – informal student exhibition and fabrication, arts events and gatherings, performance and formal exhibitions and shows. The building form recalls the canyons of Utah – with the exterior of modulating brick, tight to the property edges – and the commons an undulating arroyo carved into the building mass and providing daylight and natural ventilation throughout the loft-like, highly flexible facility.

Arts spaces include visual art studios for printmaking, digital media, drawing, printing, photography, video, animation, painting and sculpture. The studios are supported computer labs, communication and speech labs, a broadcast facility, art store and industrial space.

Instructional spaces include a large auditorium, performance space, lecture halls, classrooms and seminar facilities. Departmental and Faculty offices compliment the full range of arts faculty and staff.
